Westmeath County Council in conjunction with Longford County Council supported by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has engaged the services of Causeway Geotech Limited to carry out ground investigations (probing) in selected areas across the various Route Corridor Options. Probing is a non-destructive explorative method. This work commenced on 8th June 2021 and is expected to be complete before the end of July 2021.
These investigations are being carried out in areas potentially underlain by peat or alluvium deposits. The purpose of these investigations is to confirm the likely extents and approximate thicknesses of soft ground. The results of the investigations will form part of the appraisal of the various Route Corridor Options. An overview map of the areas where probing is being undertaken is contained within the Publications Tab.
